Rail Strikes

Rail strikes

Hello! Here's an important update regarding the upcoming RMT rail strike action on Thursday 30 March. We understand that the disruptions may be inconvenient, particularly for those travelling outside of London in the UK. To help you plan your trip, we've included some useful resources, including a guide for travel within London and a guide for travel from outside London.

If you're attending Bett 2023 on:

  • Wednesday 29 March - You’re in luck, it's the best day to travel. If you're leaving London, we recommend departing no later than 9pm.
  • Thursday 30 March - TfL rail services within London, including the London Underground (Tube), DLR, and the Elizabeth Line, are expected to operate normally. There may be some disruptions on the Elizabeth Line outside of Central London (East of Stratford and West of Paddington). We recommend avoiding traveling into London by train on Thursday - but don't worry, there are alternative options such as traveling by car or staying overnight.
  • Friday 31 March - there may be strike action affecting Friday's early morning rail services before a normal services resumes that day. We'll keep you updated on any further developments as the rail networks publish their timetables.

Travelling to the ExCeL from outside of London

We're happy to report that TfL rail services in London, including the Tube and DLR, are expected to run normally on Thursday 30 March. However, there may be disruptions on the Elizabeth Line outside of Central London.

If you need to travel into London, we recommend avoiding trains, but don't worry, there are alternative options. For instance, you can travel by car or stay overnight. If you decide to travel by car, please note that parking is available on a first come, first served basis, using pay and display. You can find ExCeL using the postcode E16 1XL.

Alternatively, if you prefer to stay overnight, you can find a list of nearby hotels here.

Lastly, if you cannot travel into London on Thursday 30 March, join us at Bett on either Wednesday 29 March or Friday 31 March instead!

And if you have any questions, please get in touch.

Can I reschedule my meetings if I’m effected by the strike action?

When you complete your Connect @ Bett profile, you should only select meetings slots that you know that you will be available for. So if you think you will be unable to attend on Thursday then don’t select Thursday meetings slots because you won’t be able to cancel your meetings once they are scheduled.

Will there be disruption on the day before and after the strike?

Strike action is planned for Thursday 30th March only. It’s likely that services early in the morning on Friday 31st March will be disrupted as a result of the previous days strike but they will be running a normal schedule for the rest of the day on Friday. Services on Wednesday 29th March will be unaffected by Thursday’s strike action but we advise leaving London no later than 8pm on Wednesday.
