SUSTAINABILITY AT BETT
Waste reduction and recycling
One of the biggest sustainability challenges for exhibitions is reducing the waste that results from hundreds of stand spaces and activations. To do this, the team at Bett ensure features, like theatres, are build with materials which can be reused and are made from sustainable materials. Where possible, structures are kept in storage and reused year after year!
To assist exhibitors, Bett works with contractors who offer stand solutions made with materials which are reused across multiple events, reducing waste which would otherwise be sent to landfill.
Between 2025 and 2026, Bett made significant steps towards better environmental outcomes, reducing waste from the show by 42.7%! Of the waste created at Bett, 65.3% of this was able to be recycled.
Sustainable signage
- The majority of signage at Bett is digital, preventing waste from printed materials.
- Printed, rigged banners you see on the show floor are made using a recyclable and sustainable material called Kavalan instead of PVC. Outside the show floor, 95% of the printed banners you’ll see across the ExCeL are PVC free.
- We limit the handing out of physical brochures and guides at the show and instead supply these online. We encourage our exhibitors to join us and offer QR codes instead of printed materials where possible.
FUN FACT...
In some cases, leftover materials and resources can be reused across shows or made into something else! For example, our carpets are no longer sent to landfill but instead made into plastic pellets which are then used in manufacturing.
We’re always looking into how Bett can be more sustainable. If you think you can help or have a suggestion, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at exhibitor@bettshow.com.
Our venue
The ExCeL London, where Bett is hosted, takes measures to make the venue as sustainable as possible.
- In 2022, ExCeL London was certified to be a carbon neutral venue.
- The ExCeL is home to one of the largest commercial wormeries, containing 300,000 worms to recycle food waste.
- 100% of electricity comes from renewable sources and all gas is accounted for through Voluntary Carbon Offsets (VCOs).
- The ExCeL sends zero waste to landfill and has done for more than a decade! The venue works with Community Food Enterprise, an organisation which takes surplus food and furniture from the show and distributes it across local community projects in Newham.
