The COVID-19 crisis has disrupted education for approximately 1.6 billion learners across the world. The economic impact of this has potentially caused a further 23.8 million students – especially those from more vulnerable or disadvantaged backgrounds – to drop out or lose access to education within the 2020-2021 academic year.

In this time of uncertainty and high-stakes decision-making, education leaders, practitioners and policymakers have turned to the field of education research. In response to this, Education Development Trust (EdDevTrust) have used their research function to produce a series of rapid syntheses of evidence, drawing on a diverse body of findings relevant to government schools in high-, medium- and low-income settings. They also draw on research conducted on crisis responses within their own educational programmes across the world. ISC Research have also brought together sector-specific findings from the international schools market, considering both their pre-existing research on the sector’s response to previous crises and the current practices and experiences of international schools around the world.
