A growing concern for schools across England

Recent reports by Ofsted highlighted a significant decline in student behaviour since the pandemic, with increases in classroom disruption, non-compliance and verbal abuse. Similarly, the Department for Education’s National Behaviour Survey (NBS) revealed that substantial lesson time is being lost due to misconduct, with many educators feeling behaviour has worsened since 2023.

To understand the full extent of these issues, Bett commissioned a YouGov survey, gathering insights from teachers across primary and secondary schools. We sought to uncover whether behaviour continues to decline, the types of disruptions they face and what steps educators believe could make a positive difference. The findings were both eye-opening and alarming, revealing the deep challenges impacting classrooms today.
