There is wide recognition among schools and colleges that Continued Professional Development (CPD) for educators is invaluable, and clearly linked to student outcomes. 

Nonetheless, teachers face very real barriers to taking part in high-quality and inspiring CPD. Chief among these are:

• Time: There are simply not enough hours in the school day to get the training educators need, even with designated days for learning. Many teachers end up dedicating their own personal time to get the CPD they need. With packed schedules and full classrooms, often that’s at home, alone, online.
• The limits of online courses: Online training undoubtedly has merits, but according to research, digital CPD sessions often fail to captivate teachers. Research shows that most educators are unsatisfied with the relevance, thoroughness and quality of the training they receive.

Just as we wouldn’t expect students to thrive alone in an empty classroom reading from a whiteboard, we can’t expect teachers to learn and grow professionally through multiple-choice questions and recorded seminars.
