Tech funding for STEM based learning from Meet and Code
Funding all the fun stuff you want to do in schools with students can be difficult; if only you had the money for the inspirational technology that can be used to engage and enrich students’ educational experience! However, there is an easy way to get up to £1200 of funding to help get access to digital experiences for students and supplement your already awesome teaching.
If you have charity status or partner charity who can submit the application on your behalf, e.g. school PTA, and are planning or are already offering digital workshops to the underserved, underrepresented and underprivileged young people of the UK, you could be eligible to apply for up to three grants of £400.
Digit<all> is the UK partner for the EU Meet and Code initiative which aims to support local nonprofits across Europe to provide access to coding and digital skills for the next generation. Last year we gave out 80 Meet and Code grants to schools and other non-profit organsations from all over the UK.
This included the Space To Learn Woodland Coding for Autistic Children event. The event took place in the serene surroundings of Mourne Park, Kilkeel and saw each child embark on a journey to explore the sensory delights of the woods, they were encouraged to focus on what they could see, hear, and feel. Micro:bits in hand, the participants then programmed these devices to express the emotions they were feeling at that moment.
Other schools have used the funding for a wide range of projects and technologies including: crumble kits, micro:bits, cameras, robots, Lego League kit and VR headsets. If you have an inspirational project in mind that’s impeded by not having the technology, then we might be able to move those barriers for you.
In order to have the best chance at receiving the grant here are some tips for your application:
- Have a clear project in mind and think about how it will enhance your learner’s digital skills beyond the curriculum you already deliver.
- The most impactful projects will reach underserved, underrepresented or underprivileged groups of young people.
- Have a group of approximately 20 young people you would be able to deliver the project for.
- Research the technology you might need to deliver it.
- Know how long the project will take and when you’re going to deliver it. Each grant supports 4 hours of delivery.
- Be keen to share the success of your project with Digit<all> and more importantly your local community.
Don’t worry if you don’t meet all of the above criteria, all applications will be considered. Good luck with thinking of a fun project, it will be great to see people applying for grants when they open on the 22nd May and hearing about the inspirational work you’re doing with the funding.
Digit<all> is a charity that focuses on developing and enhancing digital skills, including a comprehensive understanding of the UK curriculum. Everything we offer to schools is free, including teacher CPD, resources, grants and workshops.
