Give your unwanted tech a 2econd Chance with the help of North London charity
Give your unwanted tech a 2econd Chance
What happens to your school or organisation’s computers and laptops when it’s time for an upgrade?
Often old devices end up in storage or sent to landfill. But a North London charity is helping schools and suppliers do something more meaningful with them by using older machines to provide training and workplace skills to people facing barriers to employment.
2econd Chance works with young people (16–24) with Education Health Care Plans, as well as adults who are not in education, employment or training (NEET), including those with disabilities, autism, and additional needs.
“Too often young adults who can’t find work because of disabilities or complex needs are left outside of the system with nothing to do. But many of them want to learn, work and be part of the community,” explains 2econd Chance co-founder Nigel Canin. “Everyone has a right to work if they want to, so we provide a calm, welcoming workspace where everyone is included.”
Through 2econd Chance's training programme, donated devices become hands-on learning tools. Trainees learn how to securely data wipe and refurbish computers to industry standards, building practical IT skills, confidence, and workplace experience.
The programme includes a 12-week work experience placement and a British Computer Society-accredited Tech 10 course, helping prepare participants for entry-level roles in IT should they want to pursue them.
Once refurbished, devices are given free of charge to schools and individuals who need them most, helping improve digital access across the community. Any remaining devices are sold at low cost, with proceeds reinvested into parts and training to support more learners.
“Donated machines are the lifeblood of 2econd Chance. If your school or company is looking to do more to fulfil their Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability goals please consider donating your unwanted laptops and computers to us,” added Nigel.
For schools and suppliers, donating equipment is a simple way to:
· Reduce e-waste that would end up in landfill
· Provide inclusive training as a stepping stone to employment
· Help provide free devices to schools and families
Devices under six years old are ideal, including laptops, desktops and tablets. Bulk collections, secure data wiping certification, and impact reporting are all provided.
If your school or organisation is upgrading equipment, please consider passing them on to 2econd Chance to make a real difference.
