According to the ONS, in 2021, 31% of UK tech jobs are held by women. A 2017 PWC UK survey of 2,000+ A-levels and university students shows that the gender gap in technology starts at school: only 27% of female students surveyed say they would consider a career in technology, vs. 61% of males. The AWS GetIT education programme helps young students gain digital skills, challenge gender stereotypes and consider a career in tech as they take part in an app design competition. AWS GetIT pairs Amazon women professionals with schools to mentor students as they design an 'app for good', making tangible social change within their community. This session includes a programme overview and a panel discussion with our AWS GetIT Ambassadors and teachers who have supported students through the process.
