Dame Darcey is a former Principal with The Royal Ballet and the most famous British ballerina of her generation. During her nearly twenty years as a Principal, she won worldwide renown for her unique combination of having a tall and athletic physique whilst dancing with soft lyricism. Dame Darcey will share her passion and dedication to promoting the arts in schools, and why she set up the charity Diverse Dance Mix (DDMIX) to bring dance fitness to as many children as possible. DDMIX Trust helps children from all backgrounds and abilities experience the benefits of movement to music ' from fitness to confidence, coordination and memory, as well as physical and mental wellbeing. The diversity of the programme enables students to engage with a variety of cultures and styles, from the hand jive of the 1950s and 60s, to Japanese dance, Flamenco and more. It is also designed to be a platform for students explore their own creativity and self-expression, and as a source of wellbeing. At the end of the session, the audience will be able to experience a quick burst of Darcey's DDMIX!
