The education sector has experienced radical disruption in recent years, resulting in huge challenges around recruitment, retention, workload and managing institutional culture. Working with leading coaches, psychologists and business leaders, Professor Damian Hughes has identified the STEPS process, which explores the psychology of engagement. He outlines what it is that makes particular ideas and stories stick in our minds. He shows how reframing our understanding from 'how clever are you?' to instead asking, 'how are you clever?' can have radical effects on the everyday language we use. He will demonstrate how The Generation Game improves our ability to communicate and how leaders in schools, colleges and universities can improve relationships with staff in their institution. By showing how you can use strategies like the 'The Curse of Knowledge', the 'Velcro Theory of Memory' and 'Curiosity gaps,' Damian will demonstrate how you can adopt simple ideas to engage your teams and colleagues effectively in education institutions. This session will explore how to break out of the pattern of predictability, create emotional impact and guide effective action.
