The Open University (OU) has been building and deploying AI tools at scale since the early 2010s. Over the last year they have been creating and analysing Generative AI to support two activities: academics writing educational materials and students using these materials to study. In this session, Professor John Domingue will describe some of the main areas that Generative AI can be deployed for learning benefit and show the OU's current version of their Generative AI tools. This session will also outline their plans to deploy Generative AI for executive training at the Open Data Institute within a UKRI funded project SAGE-RAI (Smart Assessment and Guided Education with Responsible AI). It is the OU's overall view is that, if harnessed in the right way, Generative AI will be more transformative to Higher Education than the internet was 30 years ago.
