Data breach case study: Responding collectively to a cyber-attack on a school

Wellbeing , Innovation , Higher Education
When a school in the North East of England came under cyber-attack it turned to the North East Business Resilience Centre (NEBRC), a not-for-profit initiative between policing, academia, and the private sector with the help of cybersecurity students in the North East of England and Yorkshire. Cybercriminals stole sensitive data from the school's IT network, demanding payment. Public and private sector stakeholders collaborated to respond to the attack and help the school recover. Using a timeline of events, law enforcement officers involved in the incident will look at the responses and decision-making, together with first-hand testimony from the affected school and Acronis, a prominent technology provider, and key partner of the NEBRC. Gain unique insights from a school that has faced a cyber-attack and is willing to share its experiences, offering invaluable lessons for others. Empathise with the stakeholders who had to make decisions quickly, and gain insights into how to prevent similar attacks in the future, with a focus on preventative technologies and processes.
