Tor is a specialist speech and language therapist with an enhanced role in AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication). She has worked at National Star for five years, supporting young people with complex physical disabilities. During this time she has been part of ‘voice project’ for a number of students, enabling them to choose a more personalised voice that represents their culture and identity. Her work in these areas has featured in regional and national media. She also presented a poster at the RCSLT conference in 2019 discussing the use of smart speakers and how they can aid in improving intelligibility of speech with individuals with speech difficulties such as dysarthria. Tor works closely with other specialist AAC hubs, and technology providers across the country to ensure that students have access to the most up to date communication software and support.
