Tom created CareerThread five years ago to help young people develop their career aspirations. Growing up in Derby, he wanted to study Medicine but was limited by a small professional network and few opportunities for hands-on experience. He later recognised that these same challenges affect many students.  

CareerThread was created to bridge this gap by bringing employers closer to schools and their students. The platform began by supporting work experience and building vibrant employer networks for schools. Since then, it has expanded to help schools track student–employer engagement and skills development, giving students a stronger foundation for their future careers.  

Tom is the founder and director of CareerThread and a PhD graduate from the University of Dundee.
