Steve has been a teacher for over 20 years and a headteacher of a large primary school in Oxford since 2013. He has been a Local Authority Moderator for ten years and runs partnership moderation events for groups of schools across Oxfordshire. In 2021 during the pandemic, he jointly set up the Oxfordshire Primary Head Teachers Network (OPHN) a collaboration network for over 200+ head teachers with two other Oxfordshire headteachers that continues to this day. In 2017, he set up his own company, AssessProgress, with a small vocational education company and developed their Adaptive Comparative Judgement engine into a product to assess primary school writing. That product was bought by a large national Edutech company in 2020, and Steve continued to support the development of the product for the next three years while running Comparative Judgment sessions for over 5500 pupils throughout the UK. At BETT 2022, he was awarded Best Assessment Practitioner in the UK at the E-Assessment Awards for his work with Adaptive Comparative Judgment. In addition, Steve has developed four EdTech products across curriculum and assessment and has spoken in the UK, Madrid and Sweden about primary writing assessment.
