Stephen is a passionate advocate of both play as a powerful learning mechanism, and technology as a tool for learning. Spanning an education career of 20 years, specialising in technology in the classroom and games-based learning, he has used over 140 off-the-shelf games to teach in over 70 countries worldwide. Minecraft sits at the heart of his teaching toolkit across three core pillars - Curriculum, Social and Emotional Learning, and Career Readiness as well as unique learning projects such as the physical construction of an entire school using Minecraft and a single 3D Printer, summer camps on real farms, museums, and archaeological digs, and a series of 'Teaching The Tough Stuff' lessons that teach gender equality, the refugee crisis, civil rights, conservation, and more. Most recently, Stephen developed Microsoft's free Minecraft Esports Educator Framework, and 26 esports experiences across three game modes, with leagues in schools and universities in 12 countries so far and an upcoming international esports competition.
