Sophia Devenport Jackson
Violinist,
Horizon Quartet (Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance)
United Kingdom
Sophia was born in Devon and grew up in a musical household playing recorder and flute before moving to the violin at the age of 7 with her first teacher Kim Van Der Kiste. When living in Devon she was a frequent member of Torbay Symphony Orchestra where she was able to explore many different types of music from Mozart to Lutoslawski as well as get to know some of the quartet repertoire with fellow orchestra members. In June she had the amazing experience of returning as soloist to play Mozart Concerto no. 5 with them. In 2022 she moved to London to begin studying at Trinity Laban as a scholar with Professor Ofer Falk who she began to have lessons with during Covid, first online and then then as restrictions were reduced she enjoyed the 412 mile round trip for face to face lessons! Sophia has a particular passion for Baroque music and solo Bach is one of her all time favourites. She enjoys experimenting with a '42 Baroque bow from Amazon!
