Sian is Head of the Strategy and Research Unit in the UK Department for Education. She is an experienced policy official working on technology related policies for schools and colleges since 2019. She leads a team building the long-term strategic approach for technology in education in England. Her current focus is on looking beyond 'fixing the basics' towards sustainable innovation in pedagogic practices using technology, and is currently working on policy around Generative AI. As a former modern foreign languages teacher, she is passionate about using technology to improve outcomes for learners and to empower and enable a world-class teaching and lecturing workforce. Sian holds a BA from Cambridge University and a PGCE from Oxford University. She is based in London.
