Michael Wooldridge is one of the world’s leading authorities on artificial intelligence. As Ashall Professor of the Foundations of AI at the University of Oxford, he has spent more than 35 years researching the field and has published over 500 scientific papers and ten books on AI, translated into nine languages. He is President-Elect of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and co-editor-in-chief of the journal Artificial Intelligence, the leading international journal in the field.   

An award-winning communicator and speaker, Wooldridge is widely recognised for making complex ideas about AI accessible to broad audiences. In 2023, he delivered the prestigious Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, broadcast by the BBC to audiences of more than a million viewers, and in 2025, he received the Royal Society’s Faraday Prize for excellence in science communication. His talks combine deep technical expertise with clarity, humour, and practical insight into how AI is reshaping business, government, work, and everyday life.   

Wooldridge regularly advises governments, policy-makers, and industry leaders on the opportunities and risks of AI. He has given evidence to multiple parliamentary committees and served as Specialist Advisor to the UK House of Lords inquiry on large language models and generative AI.
