Janice Ross

High School Superintendent, New York City Public Schools
United States
Janice Ross is currently the superintendent of Brooklyn North High Schools, one of the largest school districts in the country. In 2009, Janice became the founding principal of the School for Classics: An Academy of Thinkers, Writers and Performers in District 19, one of the districts she currently serves as superintendent. As superintendent, she is dedicated to creating innovative 21st century classrooms that integrate technology to empower students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a world that is rapidly evolving in response to technology innovations. Janice's pedagogic philosophy is that of critical love, which is about teaching the whole child with a growth mindset. Janice has worked to introduce equity-focused practices such as culturally responsive sustaining pedagogy and advanced literacy into her district, along with improved social and emotional learning. These efforts have proven worthwhile as Brooklyn North High Schools continue to improve, with more students graduating college and career ready. Janice continues striving to lead generations of teachers and school leaders to be insightful, responsive, forward-thinking, and excellent in pedagogy.
