James is a highly experienced leader in digital education, with a 30-year career spanning educational, technical, and cyber security leadership roles. He spent two decades at United Learning, where as Director of IT he created and delivered the Digital Strategy, led the EdTech and IT teams, and developed a comprehensive Cyber Security Strategy. He also led the EdTech Demonstrator Programme on behalf of the DfE. Since January 2024, James has run his own technology consultancy, supporting trusts of all sizes to strengthen system security, build effective IT teams, and design financially sustainable digital strategies. He is a member of the Digital Futures Group and a Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society.
