Miramontes initiated his educational journey in 1991 as a teacher at Cesar Chavez Elementary School in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. After five years, he transitioned to a teacher on special assignment at Benton Middle School, eventually becoming its assistant principal in 1997.
In 1999, Miramontes returned to Cesar Chavez Elementary as its principal for the next six years. Following this, from 2005 to 2011, he served as the principal of Beechwood School in the Fullerton School District. In 2011, he assumed the role of director of human resources at the Los Angeles County Office of Education.
Miramontes joined the Buena Park School District in 2014 as assistant superintendent of educational services, where he directly oversaw curriculum, instruction, and student achievement for six elementary schools and one junior high school. In 2018, the Board of Education appointed him as the superintendent of the 4,100-student district.
As of March 6, Miramontes, bringing over 30 years of educational experience, has taken on the position of deputy superintendent for the Orange County Department of Education. In this role, he will oversee OCDE's Educational Services division, coordinate support for Orange County's 28 independent school districts, and provide strategic direction and academic accountability for all county-run schools and instructional programs.
