Dr Marion Lean
Design Researcher, HM Government
Marion is a design researcher and co-design coach supporting government teams to engage and embed citizens through participatory practices to improve outcomes of policy design and service delivery processes. Marion's focus is on improving choice and empowerment through real-world research by expanding knowledge about technology and its implications at different levels of society, in different sectors and within different cultural settings. Her recent projects with the Department for Digital Culture Media and Sport and the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs have enabled understanding of the variance in user needs and developed novel approaches for working with geographically and digitally 'harder to reach' communities on Gigabit connectivity in rural schools and Future Farming. Marion's practice-based PhD in textile design research at the Royal College of Art explored embodied methods for implementing material practices as research tools in the area of emerging technology and data experience.
