Charlie Smith
Charlie is a Lecturer in esports and the Course Leader for BA (Hons) esports at the University of Suffolk. He completed his Undergraduate and Master’s degrees in Computer Games Technology and Creative Technologies at the University of Portsmouth and is currently undertaking his PhD into the relationship between in-game knowledge, decision-making, and expertise.
His work on esports curriculum in Higher Education, in conjunction with his Master’s thesis, has applied to a range of fields including broadcasting, event management, psychology, and sport science.
Alongside his academic career, Charlie has a decade of experience in the esports industry working on events and productions of varying scales, with partners ranging from Insomnia Gaming Festival to ESL FACEIT Group and DreamHack. He helps run an organisation facilitating broadcasts and events for a grassroots esports community and uses his experiences to guide his teaching.
