Ed Mason

Head of Education Portfolio, University of Bath

Ed Mason is Head of Education Portfolio in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Bath, where he leads work on the strategic fit and sustainability of the academic portfolio and on evidence-based enhancement of education and student experience. His recent projects have included implementing curriculum transformation, assessment and feedback, inclusive education, and data-led interventions. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Principal Investigator on University Teaching Development Fund projects, and a University Teaching Award winner. Previously, Ed held senior leadership, teaching and digital learning roles in secondary education having trained with Teach First. As Deputy Headteacher at a major HMC boarding school, he had responsibility for academic strategy, curricualum, staffing and educational technology, having previously served as Head of Digital Learning. He later became Head of Education at EdTech start-up Paideia, developing online English and Mathematics provision and working across product development, curriculum and assessment. His wider experience includes education consultancy and online and in-person teacher development, including work with Bath Spa University’s Network for Learning and with eSports providers, alongside voluntary academy governance at board level, including financial oversight and headteacher remuneration.
