This session explores how film can be used as a powerful, accessible tool to develop digital literacy, empathy and critical thinking in a world shaped by social media, AI and infinite content. Drawing on classroom practice and research, it examines how film viewing supports perspective-taking and thoughtful discussion around complex and sensitive topics, including the influence of algorithms, representation and online narratives. It also considers how optional creative opportunities can strengthen student voice, confidence and engagement. The session demonstrates flexible ways to embed film-based learning across the curriculum, highlighting free access to resources, training and student experiences, and showing how film can enrich existing practice while supporting wellbeing and real-world skills.
