Screen time: The good, the bad and the way forward

Wellbeing Skills & Careers

What do we really mean when we talk about screen time? Not all screen use is created equal; some activities help students learn, create, and connect, while others may lead to distraction or disengagement.

This session takes a practical approach to understanding the different types of screen time and how they impact students' development and well-being. We’ll discuss strategies to help educators and parents work together to identify what “good” screen time looks like and how to set healthy boundaries for technology use, navigating the challenges and opportunities of screen time, and fostering a shared commitment to balanced, intentional use of technology.

Key questions explored:

  • What constitutes screen time and why does it matter?
  • How can we differentiate between beneficial and detrimental screen use?
  • How can each of us support healthy screen habits at school and at home, for children and for adults
